General Data Structure
Information within
the
ErgonomiX:IPAM™ database is organised as
an information tree although the actual data in the database is relational. This
is achieved by storing the level of the tree branch within the database as an
additional information.
This information structure
an easy replication and reporting of the
data to destinations who need the information in a list oriented form, |
is important for data transfer and utilisation
to the modules provisioning data regarding corresponding services to the network
and |
allows for efficient data handling using
standard databases. |

Open API
ErgonomiX:IPAM™ provides an open API for external
applications to support:
reservation, assignment or
releasing of IP addresses or ranges |
queries from the API to
allow read access to stored information and allow reporting from
ErgonomiX:IPAM™'s database. |

Address Space
administers all public address
space acquired, reserved and/or utilised for own and/or end customers purposes |
on main level of the stored
information, large blocks, purchased from the according authority or assigned by
a service provider are presented |
with according entries of several
different types, theses spaces are divided and sub-divided into
sub-trees associated with business
units, |
regions and |
buildings etc |
Address Space partitioning
Free space is presented as
according entries within the tree to provide an easy overview about unused
address ranges. |
Any given public IP address range
can in principle be partitioned into as many pieces as being appropriate for the
customers needs. |
As a default, at least five levels
of sub-partitioning are available. |

Device specific information
When an address gets assigned to a specific
service, also a device type and a device id can be assigned to that address.
In turn, from that device type, device specific
information form can be reached. |
Device specific information can be administered
on a per device or on a per service bases. |

GUI Layout
The central GUI form for
administering IP addresses, ranges and pools is tree oriented. |
The presentation reflects the tree
structure of the partitioning of a given IP block or pool in the real world.
Within the tree the assignment of
ranges and sub-ranges can easily be specified to
sub-organisations or
business objectives or
specific service types . |

Access Control
The product provides several
facilities to control individual access of users and user groups. |
Access to parts of the data can be
controlled. |
Identification and authentication
of the user is done at login time. |
Access on a per IP Address Pool or
IP Block basis configurable by administrator. |
Administrator can
hide a block or pool completely from users or groups,
can provide read access only
or allow for updating the according
entries.
such grant always includes all sub-entries in the database. |
Back to top
Re-Organisation / Consolidation
Renumbering and restructuring procedures
according to customers needs from architectural point of view available |
Entries can be edited regarding the address
space or type involving all subentries to be changed accordingly |
So far the re-organisation of a given IP number
space is supported on a per block or per pool basis. |
Customer specific needs such as updates of
associated data or automated overwrite of existing duplicate or overlapping date
within the re-numbering process must be individually specified but can be
implemented. |

Provisioning
ErgonomiX:IPAM™ provides the general means for
automated provisioning of the IP addresses and according service oriented data
to network elements such as routers, DHCP servers, etc. |
Services can be activated, blocked, suspended
or deactivated in the live network. |
The ErgonomiX:IPAM™ keeps the network
up-to-date with the information stored within its database as far as DCN
connectivity to the live network is existing. |
For the purpose of network provisioning, the
product also keeps information regarding future IP address space structure and
IP address assignment in addition to the current information. |
ErgonomiX:IPAM™ can be adapted or enhanced so,
that with the assignment of an IP address range to a service, the appropriate
network element is fed with the necessary information in the appropriate way.
Service provisioning depends on the actual
needs of the customer and on the network elements being utilised. |
